First Visit and Treatments
First Visit
At the start of an examination we take a full case history. If you have had X-rays or scans, it would be very helpful if you could bring a photocopy of any reports from your GP. You will then be asked to undress in privacy down to your underwear and to wear a gown. A full physical examination is carried out. This involves some orthopaedic and neurological tests, but is mainly to feel how the bones and muscles move.
The chiropractor will then give you a formal diagnosis, and explain what is happening in terms you will understand. You will then have a chance to ask questions.
Treatment
The chiropractor will then explain what to expect in your course of treatment. This will not only cover what he will do, but also what you will have to do to help your recovery.
The second treatment is 3-7 days after the first, and as you improve, your treatments will be less frequent. Conversely the worse you get, the more frequent the treatment. It is usually five steps forward and one step backwards. It usually takes less than ten treatments for the pain to disappear. In the unlikely event of there being no improvement there will be a review after 4 treatments. You may have a rare or complicated condition that looks simple. The review will determine if you need more treatment, an X-Ray, or see your doctor or specialist.
Once the pain has gone, there is a series of check-ups every few months to ensure the problem does not return. Once the improvement is sustainable in the long term, you will be put on call.
By then you will know when to return for treatment should the need arise.
It is the philosophy of the clinic to see you as often as is necessary, but as rarely as possible.
