Frequently asked questions
- Is Chiropractic for me?
-
If you are unsure that chiropractic can help you, free check-ups are available. It gives the chiropractor a chance to check you out, while you check out the chiropractor, and the clinic. The chiropractor will tell you what sort of problem you have, and what sort of treatment you can expect. This is not a formal diagnosis but an informed opinion. You are then free to decide if and how you want to continue.
- Are there any side effects?
-
Sometimes there is an ache for 2 or 3 days after treatment. This can be reduced by placing a bag of ice or frozen peas in a tea towel and placing it over the treated area. If the pain is not obviously better in 2 or 3 days ring the clinic.
- Is Chiropractic safe?
-
Chiropractic has far fewer risks than many other treatments for your problem. Serious side effects are extremely rare. Very rarely, manipulation of the neck has been linked with strokes, although research shows that chiropractic is one of the safest and most effective treatments available.
- What is the difference between Chiropractic and Osteopathy?
-
They are 90% the same. Chiropractors usually see people more frequently at the start of a course of treatment. A lot o of chiropractic and osteopathic treatment is the same.
Where they differ, chiropractic is said to be more 'positive'.
- Chiropractic Training
-
The Anglo-European College of Chiropractic was founded in 1963. It initially offered diplomas in chiropractic, but has offered degrees since 1992 that are recognised all over the world.
Not only does the course cover how to detect and treat problems in the spine, it also covers general medicine (anatomy, physiology, and pathology). It is important that chiropractors can recognise medical conditions that they cannot treat, and can describe the problem to GP's and other doctors in a form that they can understand.
Continuing professional development is now compulsory. This involves conferences, seminars, study programmes, or research. It is important that Chiropractors stay up to date with modern developments
